My dad's '86 F250 4x4 6.9 has broken something in the front differential. He was plowing some light snow with it and lost the 4x4. With all 4 wheels off the ground, the front driveshaft is turning but not the axle shafts to the front wheels. So I'd assume it's a pinion or spider gear problem - does that sound right?
I assume it has the Spicer 50 front end. The front gvw is 4600 (if I remember correctly) and the front hub/lockout is as large as the center of rim.
Is there a way to sneak the pumpkin out without removing a side axle - or will I need to pull one? Or both? I need to keep it mobile while I look for parts because I'm using a friend's shop...
