No Start Normal Crank... DTC1298... please help

Hello all...

I have a 1999 SuperDuty F450 Diesel that won't start. Getting an allegedly "false" error code of P1298. Replaced IDM and still not starting. It only starts when spraying WD40 into injector... other than that... zilch.

Any leads on this one?

Thanks soooo much.

On my AllData system I can only pull up a 350. What I'm seeing leads me to an IDM relay. I 'm trying to find an exact location.

I appreciate your help, but the P1298 is reported to be a false code. A bulleting posted reports this:

"Issue: The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with a false Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1298 (Injector Drive Module (IDM) failure). This may be due to circuit tolerance in the IDM setting DTC P1298 if the battery voltage is low. Vehicle or IDM performance is not affected by this false DTC."

I will try the other ideas and report back to you all... thanks so much!

Your DTC not withstanding....That sounds like a bad glow plug relay, or bad glow plugs, or weak batteries. Will it start on it's own if you plug it in for a few hours?

If the IDM were actually bad it would not run at all. Have you checked the wiring harness at the IDM, PCM and valvecovers to make sure everything is tight and corrosion free?
