ICP sensor questions

On my 95 psd i keep setting the ICP out of range code. The truck will run like crap, surging idle, falling on its face and stalling. It sets the code and then goes into safe mode i assume b/c it runs great but shifts extreemly hard. I had the problem about 2 years ago and took it to ford, a few thousand later and 3 new sensors it wasn't fixed. I kept cleaning the screen on the side of the fuel filter housing and kept running power service additive through every diesel tank. Now I let the tank get really low, which i shouldn't have and the problem is back. Would a new sensor help? what else should i try?

The real hard shifts leads me to think that it is either an Engine Oil temp sensor out of wack, this will advance your timing and raise your line pressures, leading to hards shifts, and a fast idle. The hard shifts could also be a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor, located right above the pinion on your rear axle, have seen that a few times to lead to hard shifts.

The Eratic idle and lack of power COULD, COULD be a bad TPS but I doubt it, kinda does sound like a bad IPR, does shutting the truck off and then restarting fix the problem for a little bit, also a bad IPR could set a CES light, are you getting a light??? The filter screen cleaning and running the tank low Doesn'tt seem relevent to the problem, I think. unless you ran it to low, and sratched an injector, but again not relevent to the hard shifts

If you set an IPR code, and sent it into safe mode, it shouldn't idle up at all, just kinda run funny and barely rev, the hard shifts sounds like something different, also how do you know that it is setting an "IPR out of range code"???

I have a superchips programmer and I read the diag. codes. It came back ICP out of range, low. I cleared the codes and it came back again in a about 2 min.
1280* ICP ICP circuit out of range low

Uses inferred ICP strategy Open/grounded circuit, biased sensor, PCM

Shutting the truck off and restarting does't help it acts up almost immediatly, 2-10 sec

My 95 is doing the same thing let me know what you guys figure out. in the mean time i am going to check out the electronic speed sensor although i just replaced it three months ago. the tranny shifts hard and the check engine light stays on consantly. i have learned before to unplug the negs on the batteries and let it reset itself, but i have tried this three times leaving it off for an hour each and it still shifts hard. i have noticed that if i wiggle the injector pressure sensor i can get the truck to idle a little better. do you think the two problems are related

I had similar symptoms. My fix was a new Injector driver module.
I can't comment on any other possible causes-not enough experience. All I know is I had same symptoms and a 1280 code (among others). Popped in a new IDM and we were good to go. They are expensive however-if you need one, you can get them for $375 from a place in Fla that rebuilds them. Same 12 month warranty as a new factory unit.
If you need one, let me know and I'll hunt up the internet address of the outfit.

The truck is still doing the same thing now. It cleared up for about 3 days and then started up again. I'd appreciate your help Thanks
