I have just recently purchased a 1942 Ford Fire Engine. It has no engine or trans. The person I bought it from has no info on it. I have been told that it is an old fire truck from the station that I volunteer for. Any ways, I have pulled the VIN # from the frame and am looking for some place I can get any idea of what it used to have in it and/or any other information I can get.
Unfortuntly all the VIN tells is the engine, the serial numbers should fall within a certain range for the '42 year. The engine that was probably in it was a flathead V8, probably of 90HP, although sometimes a 100 HP V8 was used, trans would have a been a 4 spd, most likely with a power take off for running pumps, etc.
Welcome to FTE, post some pictures sometime if you can, I would really like to see the truck.
i recently purchased a catalog of ford truck id numbers and decoding its a cars and parts magazine i cant find a number or address just look it up on the web
