Just had my first oil change done at the dealer ( a freebie at 3000 miles) and would like to do additional changes myself when they are due. Found a case of Rotella (6 gals) 10 W 40 at BJ's for $35 and change. Would like some input as to where I can get decent oil filters at a reasonable price and what other service should be done (fuel filters, lube front end?) when oil is changed. Thanks, Jim
Try filter1.com for all your filter needs their prices are pretty hard to beat. I'm not sure about the timeline for the other maintenance though I would have to look it up.
Every oil change you should lube the front end. It will add life to all those tie rod ends. Also check all your fluids, diff, transfer case, trans, brake, coolant, power steering, water level in batteries, and whatever else you can find.
check your owners manual as to what needs to be checked, so you don't miss something. Check with your local auto parts store for oil filters. Just be sure they meet the ford specs., same for the oil. Most of the places I checked the price was from $15-22 for the filter.Oil change at the dealership was $72.00. On the ford site you can register your vehicle and keep records on your own vehicle. This will also show what the dealership has done under warranty and maintanance done by them.
I also use filter1, they are wix filters and if you buy any combination of 6 or more shipping is free. Here is the part numbers and prices. Oil filter part # 57314, price is $11.58. Fuel filter part number is 33599 and the price is $39.00, this includes both fuel filters for the $39. I have used both the fuel and oil filters and they work fine...Deac

I also do this. On this site I input everything, like draining the HFCM, tire rotations, fuel and oil filter changes, etc...Gives me a peace of mind since I do most the maintenance myself it will be documented in their database.
Be careful with using Rotella 10w40 on a 6.0PSD. The owner's manual calls for either "CI" (or if not available) "CH" designation on oil. All of the Rotella that I have found locally with these designations are 15w40 mineral or 5w40 synthetic. Don't give FMC any ammo to use against you in a possible future warranty claim. Just my 02cents worth.
I have not checked but do our psd come with grease fittings? I have to crawl under and look at mine but all the other vehicles I have had only used sealed joints. Also what grease is recommended?
Autozone has Wix filters in a STP box for $10.00. Fuel filters for $60.00.
There is an oil thread on the main forum with some real educated people on it.
I like synthetics, Mobile Delvac-1 and Rotella T synthetic.

I don't understand your caution against Rotella? Spec says CI-4, Rotella is CI-4... so what's the issue? (The latest jugs of the 15W40 I've gotten says "CI-4 Plus" whatever that is...)

rstokes was referring to Rotella 10W40; not 15W40.

Is Rotella 10W40 CI-4 certified?
My dealer wants $45(canadian) for an oil filter. I can get one for 10-12$ (US) at Filter 1, or Racor. Most canadian parts suppliers do not carry 6.0 psd filters. What I want to know is. Are these well priced filters up to the task? Do they meet Ford Specs? Any info would be helpful.
