I am looking a 1968-1972 Ford f-100, but I can not find one in this area. I have a 1956 ford f-100 that I want to take the body off that frame and fit onto the newer frame. I can find the long bed frames but I can not find a short bed. I was thinking about getting a long bed truck and cutting the frame. That is no problem. I just need to know how long the frame should be from the front of the truck to the rear. Can anyone help me on this?
boy,ur talking about one hell of an undertaking, destroying one beloved truck, there realy isnt that much more tech in these frames, still basic,go up to the eghties
I see you're in north carolina so you should be able to find those trucks just about anywhere. if not i can find you just about any style truck or parts you need here outside of columbia s.c. were loaded down with them.plenty in good shape and as for a rolling frame not a problem. let me know if interested.
I had the same problem- I really wanted a short bed and couldn't find one around here. I found there is a perfectly straight section of the frame exactly 16" long, which is how much you have to take out. I drew 2 parallel lines, cut carefully, and welded it back together with inside double butting, and boxed that area. Bear in mind it may be illegal in your state. Throw away the emergency brake extensions, and shorten the driveshaft. I see more shorties now then I did 10 years ago; I don't know why.
i have a friend that has a yard withabout 10 or 12 of these trucks. and down the road here there's a guy that has a 71 with bad rust on the body but a good shortbed frame under it with engine but no tranny and its a rolling truck. for two hundred. another guy about 35 minutes from me has about twenty of these trucks lined up at his salvage yard. if you're interested let me know.
