No rear shocks

Is it normal not to have shocks in the rear? My '81 F250 does'nt,and there are no brackets to mount them and it does'nt look like there ever were any. How hard would it be to have them welded to the axle and the frame? I'd like to tone down the amount of back lash when driving down uneven roads.

Not normal to not have shocks. Are you any good at fabricating stuff? I would think the brackets would have to be made, and then welded on. The frame brackets could be bolted on. If you have to pay somebody to do all of this(labor is high), you may be better off finding a axle housing out of a junker.
