I saw the Best Buy post, and thought I'd offer a circuit city problem!
I have the panasonic touch screen stereo from like 1 1/2 years ago, this is by far the best radi I have ever bought, and it was only $130! ANYWAY.....
I lost the metal "sleeve" that slides over the radio, I was at C.C any way so I just asked the car stereo salesman if he could get a replacement for me, I had the model number of the radio, he claimed that the number did him no goo, he would need me to bring the radio in, OK I can live with that.
Next morning , brought the radio in, the same guy was working, I thought that may be an advantage. I handed him the radio , he went into the stereo install booth and came out about 2 minutes later with a new wiring harness, as well as the adapter to fit my truck! I said, Uh no, thats NOT what I need (still being polite) I said I need the sleeve that slides over the radio, OH he says.
He goes back into the stereo install booth this time only takes about 20 seconds and says NOPE , your radio is "old school" and we do not have a sleeve for it. (old school? touchscreen is old school? what happened to the radios with ***** being old style? lol) .
I said, do you have ANY sleeve that will fit this, even if its not the right one, due to my 95 bronco needing a sleeve for the install, no other way around it!
He said NOPE, he is getting frustrated now, and is no longer talking politely, he is looking at me like I'm an idiot and why am I still wasting his time? His last bit of advice was to look for one online.
I found a Panasonic website that sells every tiny little part for anything panasonic! They had my part, BUT it said backordered, so for the hell of it, I looked on the C.C. website and got a model number off one of their cd payers currently being sold, put the model number on the panasonic site BAM same part number as what I needed! I called C.C. this time before heading out, went through the automated answering thing, and finally got transferred to the stereo install desk, I asked if they had a sleeve for the cd player currently on sale there, he says "hang on a sec", ......"yes we have one here" I ask how much, he says "no charge , just come pick it up" .
Now is it just me, or did I make 2 un-neccessary trips? Do to the lazy jerk who doesn't feel like working. Unfortuneatly when I went back to get the sleeve, that guy was not working, I wanted to give him a piece of my mind.
But since I did get the part for free, might as well just bite my tongue, and never deal with that idiot again!
No matter how customer oriented a store is, it will always come down to the employee willing to go the extra mile once in awhile. Something is wrong with management at that store because my fiance bought a dvd there, and instead of getting checked out, we got to wait in line while 4 female employees gossipped instead of working, go figure.
CC or BB, whats the difference. I've been to both and you're dealing with young kids that don't know nor care about the product they're selling. I try not going to either one and having to deal with the morons. I just spent close to $1800 on a new computer and went to both stores. Quess what, neither store got my business after talking to the idiots they have trying to sell some thing. What more can I say!!!
I've never had problems with any of those...guess I'm lucky . I even returned a speaker back to CC and got everything back, including tax, NO questions asked.
I think that Circut City is overpriced. Most of there things are $10 to $20 over Best Buy. I like Best Buy but my favorite electronic store is the Good Guys. They always seem knowledgable and nice.
This is the same for every industry that has floor salesmen. They go through help so fast that they can't possibly train all of their employees to knwo whats going on.
Working in an auto parts store I know what you are saying. We are quite a bit more professional. I get a lot of customers that come form checker, they're mad because the kid down there was rude, their prices were overboard and they didn't have it in stock. I won't pretend to know everything about cars, but if its at least a year old, I've got a book or phone number to call for just about everything. If a few people just took the time to actually work, you wouldn't have any problems. Its good that you found your problem, it really isn't circuit city's problem, its that salesman.
And actually, your not saying anything to his supervisor probably will hurt me when I go in there next time because the same doofus will still be there !
Sometimes it does NO GOOD to say anything... but if you don't say anything, nothing will change...
As long as we demand the lowest price, they will have to hire the cheapest help !!!
The CC near me has really gone down the tubes in the last year. I went in to get the radio wiring harness for my 04 F150 and guy says sure I'll be right back with it. He comes back out of the roadshop and says "Sorry, no company is making that harness yet." WHAT?!?!?! CC has the darn thing listed on their website. So I went down to BB and had to decide between 3 manufacturers harnesses. Truly sad.
What you have to realize is that most of the people working in these places are unexperienced kids just trying to make a buck. These places offer products and unfortunately not much in expertise. You are better off to do your own homework and not rely on the employees for anything other than checking stock and ringing you up. I used to get frustrated too... and still do on occasion, but I have slowly come to realize that a person's job rarely makes them an expert. That kid probably has two priorities; days off and pay day.
You've learned a valuable lesson. Customer service in the US is dead.
My son is currently working at CC and he has gained some seniority there in only 2 months. If you have a TV or computer question don't bother. If you have a question about a video game every kid in the store can help.
