Locking Fuel Cap?????

I used the locking cap from my 99 silverado. Everything was the same size and it screwed right on. It was from a local Schucks or Napa, I dont remember, but it fit my 01 SD just fine. Been there for 6 months no problems. Is there any reason one for a gas engine would be different than ours?

Just put one on my 99. Bought it at Autozone. It is kind of a Pain, however, after just putting $90 of fuel in. It is a small price to pay. By the way, I saved the factory retaining ring; keeping it attached to the vehicle. You can get the aftermarket cap apart. However, watch for springs inside. Mine just happened to pop out and go right down the filler neck. Should have bought a lottery ticket

I had a pretty bad experience with the whole idea of a locking cap. I put a locking cap on my first car when I was a young pup thinking that it would keep the bad guys out. The thing is, if a bad guy wants in, he'll find a way in. In getting to the gas, the bad guy practically destroyed the back quarter panel in prying the locking cap off. If I would have left the original screw on cap there...he would have only had to unscrew the cap, and I would have saved a lot of $$ in getting things fixed....just my .02
