Starting project.... need suggestions
My project is a 1969 f100 my father bought new. I drove the truck through high school and college, but the truck has basically been idle since 1991. It is a stripped F100 short bed. 240 six cylinder 250,000 miles (rebuilt once), 3 speed column shift.
My goal is to refurbish and improve the truck for Sunday afternoon and Friday nite cruises. I will do an engine swap. Right now I have a 460 C6 combo, but I am unsure if I want that much motor... I know, I know, " you can't have too much motor" , but I want a good combo for 2 hour drives as well as short sprints.
I would appreciate any suggestions, links to part suppliers, things to watch out for, money, encouragement, etc.
I will post pictures as I begin this project. Thanks for the help.
.Easy to swap that in using stock mounts from 75 up F150 as most of the 73 up parts will work in your truck. have fun and keep us posted.
You have arrived at the #1 Ford truck site on the web.Since you have the truck already, you kinda know where you want to go with it. Make a plan. What will you use it for? Will you tow with it or just want to use it for a cruiser? Do you want to modernize it with disc brakes and power steering? What about the finish? I don't recommend a off frame restoration, because a lot good trucks die that way. It is easy to tear one down but all required to put it back is a very long and drawn out affair.
Know what you are gonna do before you jump in, you'll be happy in the long run.

doesn't sound like you want a race truck, so you may think about a 5.0L roller block with a C4. plenty of both @ salvage yards and less expensive than big block parts. converting to fuel injection requires quite a bit of work with the fuel system and a complete harness and computer and the Probst book on ford fuel injection is highly recommended. there are plenty of intake and carb choices for the 5.0L and they have plenty of power for what you described.
if the 460 you have has a rear sump oil pan you are in good shape there...the front sump pans barely fit and make oil changes less enjoyable as the drain plug is over the front cross member.
