The other night I had to do something I really didn't want to, I had to put isopropal antifreeze in my fuel tank to get us out of a sticky situation. It was -48 degrees out and the fuel gelled up on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. All I had was gasline antifreeze, good for fuel injector engines.I put in 2 small bottles to about three/quarters of a tank.It took about ten minutes and the truck was running again.I know it says in the owners manual not to use this type of additive, but I was in a real bind.Anybody got any opinions on the subject?
I think you'll be fine. Get ya some good diesel treatment for anti gelling (power service makes a good one) and put some in your tank. I always keep some of that stuff in the truck with me. BTW where did it get that cold???
I guess the closest place was Melfort Saskatchewan Canada.Idrove it about 20 miles that way, till I got to aservice station and filled it up & added some conditioner.
The engine doesn't care about the alky, the problem (with prolonged use) is the alcohol can damage the injectors, or rather can allow them to become damaged due to the lack of lubrication. I would think that an isolated incedent won't hurt anything.
I think it's Power Service's Diesel 911 that is used for the purpose, get a bottle of that and keep it in your truck for those situations. You probably alread do it with cold like that, but every fill up put in some additive with anti-gel to help aleviate the problem.
I wouldn't think you did any hard to your truck, especially since you topped off your tank and put in some diesel additive, you should be alright.
Glad this came up. Ye old weather man is predicting -35's for MT this Thursday and I'll be traveling right through it. I hadn't considered putting some 911 in the rig but I will now. Along with some food, candles, water, blankets, shovel, toilet paper, money, gas, portable battery booster,,, Ah heck, I'm just going to stay in Utah till it blows over.

Haha, what are you going to need gas for?? the poor shap in his "riced out" civic that ran out of gas....your a better man than me!!
Guess I should have said fuel not gas. If I run across that civic, I'll just put him in the bed along with the toyota, nissan and other road debris.
Haha good call..... i ran across some dodge road debris the other day and chucked it in the back... I love having a long bed!! Nice truck you got there by the way.... were getting snowed up here in mass too....
