Gear ratio/ Locker...Need some input

I have a heavily modified 302 matched with the NP435 granny gear Tranny and I'm not really sure the model of the Tcase.

I have 6" susp. lift with 3" body lift.
I'm running 35 12.50 15's.
I drive mostly on street with occasional light offroading.

The current gear ratio is 3.50

I've been told that my truck is undergeared and that i should go to 4.56.

I'm concerned with gas mileage, commuting to school.

If i end up changing gears, i probably am going to put a locker in the rear. Perhaps the front too.

Do you think that going with 4.56 or 4.10 could possibly improve mileage? or is this just a waste of time/money.

Give me some plusses and minuses.

Thanks guys.

You need to figure out at what rpm your motor puts out the most torque. I would think your cruising rpm should be near that. If your motor is radically hopped up, it will need to rev higher to make power. With those big tires, the higher gears would probably be a good idea.
