I'll probably head to the track again tomrrow night (San Antonio Raceway in Marion, Texas). I've got some new hardware on the way. I've got an electric fuel pressure gauge that I can mount in the cab. I also got a new Barry Grant analog fuel pressure gauge to go next to the carb. I grabbed another A/F gauge so that I can monitor both sides of the exhaust. And a 3 gauge holder to complement the other holders I have. I may have to construct some sort of gauge assemlby to keep them all in view. Dang truck is starting to look like an airplane cockpit.
I'm also going to reroute the plumbing just out of the tank to drop directly as it exits the tank. And I will wil shorten any excessive plumbing and tighten all connections. Maybe I'm getting some air sucked in at higher flow rates.
Weather looks to cooperate. ABout 60 degrees at track-time.
I'll be taking my camera this time. It has a 10x optical zoom on it, so it get's a little better video. But, I'm really hoping to get a video of all the relevant gauges while I make a pass. I can't seem to watch them and shift as well. But, I imagine my passenger holding the camera will have a hard time staying on target.....assuming I find passenger at all. I might have to construct a camera holder as well as a guage console...
Don't have time to look at the guages???
Come on Greg...it's an AUTOMATIC....
Should have time to eat a sandwich and sip a Big Gulp....
(us stick guys give NO slack to automatic guys... )
Have fun
Couple years ago I did get to take a girl for a ride in the race car. Had to basically shut it down just after the 1/8 mile mark(not suppose to take riders in anthing quicker than 14.0 ). The first 1/8 mile is the most fun. Once it gets the front wheels settled down on the ground in third gear it just starts pulling. She did not even squeal. I told her to just plant your feet and hold onto the roll bar. She did great!

Freightrain, I'm shifting the C6 myself. otherwise, it shifts at about 4200rpm.....that makes a big difference. My linkage and column shifter make for a very clumsy shift as well...
I've been noticing the same thing with my C6. At full throttle it shifts at 4500rpm. I can hold it in gear and the power just keeps building, haven't had the guts yet to determine where it starts to fall off.
If you ever get it figured out, let me know. I discussed the problem with my brother who built the old 360 that was in it, and he said it might be the kickdown linkage needs adjustment.
Ya, I know. Just pokin' Those column shifters are not meant to be precise.
I get all the rib'n for running stick shifts. I tell people I like sticks so much I had to have a truck with two handle(the Mack has a twin stick tranny).
I did run a buddies car one weekend. It was an automatic, and I used to hassle him that I was going to put a big Gulp on the dash and whopper wrappers on the floor since all I had to do was steer it. Ya, it was manual valve body, but with only two shifts with the flip of a hand I told him I would be bored and would probably need something to keep myself occupied while running down the track
Well, blue santa came early. And I talked my dad into going on his radtrip tomorrow or Friday. So, I have no excuse not to get to wrenching on the truck, except that I'm slightly hungover, and for some reason my **** hurts.
Any suggestions on how/where to put all these gauges? I've got a varity of these simple blck aluminum gauge holders. As ide fro mthe gauges in the dash panel, I have the following (all are 2 1/16" gauges as are my gauge holders):
I'm thinking about hanging a piece of strip metal from the below the dash next to the A/C. Then mounting the gauge holders "sideways" on that strip metal. I've got a single, double and a triple gauge holder...I maye eventuallly get a tranny temp gauge as well...."Houston, we have a problem"....too many gauges...
Back a number of years VDO had a dash pod holder for small guages. I had one in my '70. I put it in the left corner of dash against windsheild. I think it was a three spot holder. Might want to check Summit online and see if anyone has them anymore.
This way they are up where you can see them while driving.
Guess I better order the darn thing....Might as well spring for the matching Tranny Temp gauge now...
What temp range should I get for a C6? About 100-300deg F?
Any suggestions for a manifold to install the tranny temp sending unit? I'm running rubber hose to my cooler that is installed at the back of teh cab..My hose appears to be about 5/8" oustide diameter and probably 5/16" to 3/8" inner diameter? the one manifold I found at Summit is $40 and the fittings are only 3/8" outer diamter...
