I resently drove my 92 explorer through a small pond really fast (stupid) and sucked water into my engine through the whole air intake sytem. The engine stalled and would not turn over. I pulled out the spark plugs and then cranked the engine and pumped some water out of one of the cylinders. After cleaning all of the air hoses, filter, throttle body, sensors, etc. the darn thing won't restart. I need help at this point. I have good compression on all of the cylinders (120 or above). There is fuel getting into the engine (i can smell it and it makes the spark plugs wet). Every spark plug is firing with a nice blue spark. BUT, I CANNOT GET IT TO RUN. It will barely try to start and won't back fire or anything. I sprayed a little either in it to see if that would help and it made no difference. I think maybe the timing is off but I don't know how it would be because it has the distributorless ignition system. All of the connections have dried out now so I don't believe that to be a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Andy
If you sucked water thru the intake, I would be bet the MAF is ruined. I would look for a junk yard unit over a new. Probably very expensive. If you tried to compress water in your cylinders, do not be surprised if you have a bent rod. If it ever starts and shakes more than normal or knocks loudly, you probably bent a rod or put a flat spot on the rod bearing(s).

I know you said that the connectors have dried out, but if water got inside one, it may take a very long time to evaporate. I'm with Dialtone on this one regarding the MAF sensor, but it might be worth putting some contact cleaner on all your (disconnected) connectors too. Also, how about pulling codes from the computer. It might get you going in the right direction if it has a fault in a particular area.
Hey guys, thanks for your input. I cleaned the MAF with carb cleaner for what it's worth. And I pulled the codes and I didn't get anything. Unfortunatly, I trailered it to the dealership today and am going to let then have a look at it. I did all the hard work, now they're going to get the credit for fixing it and all my money but if it runs afterwards then I'll be happy.
I pulled that same maneuver too, through the water, water sucked in, wouldn't start... I pulled the plugs and all that, could't get it to turn over, turned out I shattered a piston. Not good news for me, hope it turns out good for you.
