Cold-Trans slip

I don't know anything about transmissions,but I need to find out why my tranny seems to be slipping the first 5-10 minutes of driving.I will start it up,let warm up 3-4 min.drive a block,stop at the stopsign,then try to go and the engine just revs for a little bit til it catchs.This goes on for three or four blocks.Now,should I let it warm up longer or whats up?This is on an 03 F-150 screw,5.4.Also,I don't know if this is related,but there is a teapot type whistle for the first 5 min. of driving in cold weather.Thanks for any help,Joe

I would have the computer scaned for codes first.

check your codes but you may find it is your throttle position sensor which has failed, if so it's cheap and easy. I assume you have a E40D.

What does the TPS have to do w/it? My trans slips when its warm.. code 452.. replaced it but haven't driven it much lately....[94 F-250 4x4 auto]

the tps is one of the sensors which controls how your trans shifts among other things so if it is malfunctioning so is your trans.Quite often you'll get hard or erratic shifts.
