Question New Gauges?

Just got my new gauges in the mail, Autometer Z Series Boost,Trans temp & Pyrometer =EGT. The egt gauge reads 200 degrees in the box. Is this normal? Will it read O when it is wired up? Need to know before the install. I'd hate to do all the work installing them in the truck to find out I have to rip them back out and wait for a replacement gauge. Any imput would be greatly appreciated! Thanks All

Thumbs up

My old Auto Meter Pyro gauge was the same way in the box. Once wired up it seemed to work fine.

I have Autometer gauges and each time I turn my truck on they auto calibrate. I’m sure yours will jump back and peg the meter at zero just like mine do.

Just got my guages in the mail yesterday and was about the ask the same question. My pyro reads 900 right now in the box. Good to know its not broken. Also it has the choice of the red or green coloring for the backlight. Anybody used red??? Is it hard to see the orangish-red dial at night with the red background?

Mine was 500* in the box. As soon as they are wired up and you turn the key on it goes down.

I didn't try the red bulb covers, because with the green bulb covers it matches the factory gauge lighting pretty good.

You are right Turbo_Whistler about the red being hard to see. The aircraft industry researched this issue extensively back in the 60s and came to the conclusion that as men approach the age of 40 their eyes become less able to discerne details of red lights and green seems to be unaffected by this shift. I don't know why GM still insists on red backlighting for their instrument panels. When I look at these I/Ps in the dark they are fuzzy to me.

I agree with DCSpecial... the green looks and works best for me. Does anybody get condensation built up inside their gauges when it's humid?
