I have high Cholesterol at 288 I watched what I ate for 2 months went back to Dr. and it dropped only to 262. He has now put me on a pill and I go back in Febuary for blood work.. Can anyone give me any help on how to lower this faster. I was really suprised to find it that high but it is...
Diet and exercise. Exercise is probably the most important part. Thanksgiving and Christmas can be hard on the cholesterol levels with all of the rich holiday food. I had mine tested a few days after Christmas and it was high also.
I lot of it is your own metabolism, too. Your liver manufactures cholesterol. My brother in law was off cholesterol totally, and his was higher than yours! Your doctor can give you more info than I can, but it's probably gonna be diet, exercise, and pills. Also, I think it takes 3 months to really change your cholesterol.
You might want to try oatmeal. My wife had high cholesteral and eating oatmeal every night helped bring it down. Just don't load it up with suger and junk.
It's worth a shot.
I am 37 and play wallyball 3x a week for at least 1.5 hour a session. I am in the right weight range for my height. This is why I am suprised at my Cholesteral numbers ( they were good 2 years ago). I do drink too much pop though about 6 cans a day maybe this is not helping either. Anyway I could exersize more but am just kinda bummed out about it.... I have cut my diet pretty good but have not cut the pop yet.......
Just stay on the medication for a while. It does take a little time to work. Also make sure the doctor does lab test every 6 months to a year to make sure there are no side affects from the medication.
I had a level of 240-250 and could not get it down, no matter what. Doctor started me on Lipitor and my last cholesterol check was 178.
Your overall health plays a more important role in fighting hardening and blockages of the arteries.
Try this, ask your doctor or lab to check your c-reactive protein levels.( or do you already know them?) a zero reading is great, the higher the number the unhealthier you are. There are a 1000 reasons why this number could be too high or just right, but a big no-no, is smoking, if your cholesterol is too high and you smoke, why worry about cholesterol? If your doc is on the ball he will understand and explain the significance of the test. Use the c-reactive prot. test to judge what will truly happen to your arteries.
I just peeked on the internet, I typed in 'C-reactive protein test' and found a 1000 articles, read some and you will understand the significance of what I say.

i can tell ya this stay away from that medication it is some bad bad stuff within a few weeks of taking it every muscle in your body will hurt and you probably wont be able to do much. high cholestrol doesnt always come from food it comes from family to. how is your dads or was your dads? what about brothers, grandfather? if its genitics alot of times medication wont work any way. i would do every thing in your power to stay of that medicine belive me.
I was on the medication for several years until I hurt so bad I quit taking it. It hurt to reach across the desk to pick up a pen. Don't have a clue what my numbers are now but I feel better.

My moms is high and not sure about my dads but a heart attack got him.. My muscles are slightly sore now that I am on the medicine.....
Exercise is good, eating right is helpful but genetics is what is most likely against you and there is nothing you can do about that except listen to the doctor and take the medicine. Mine went from 272 to 126 in less than two months by taking the prescribed medication.
