Last night my 99 3.0l automatic blew. I need to find a replacement and need some info. If i go with another 3.0l does it have to be ffv for the current electronics to work. If i go with a 4.0l do i need to rewire everything? are the tranny bellhousings the same and all? and any other suggestions you have for this, i can't think of any more questions right now.
Not sure if your saying you transmission blew up or your motor blew up. If you change the motor it will need the electronics that came with it, the ffv motor has different fuel mapping and and at least one sensor different then the "normal" motors. The 4.0l will need the ecm that came with it for sure. I don't think you will need a change in the transmission unless you go to a 4 clyn. I THINK the 3.0l and 4.0l are the same bolt pattern, but not sure. If you changing the transmission get something close to your year and you should be ok.

The 4.0L and 3.0L bellhousings are different and will not bolt up.
The 2.3L and 3.0L bellhousings are different and will not bolt up.
The "electronics" are indeed a little bit different between the flex fuel 3.0L and the regular 3.0L Ranger. Other differences include fuel pump, fuel injectors, and there is even different fuel pressure specs.
Bottom line: Stick with a flex fuel 3.0L if that is what you have in there now.
