It depends what you want the cover for. If you are not carrying anything that will stick above you bed, then go with the one that you can afford. Other wise, go with the retractable. I just bought a retractable cover for my '04 F250 from www.rolltopcover.com because I do carrying things that will stick above my bed. This cover can be locked at any position. With this cover, I don't have to remember to remove the cover before I leave my house to pickup the bulky items like a fiberglass cover. Sometimes you just can't predict when you need to pickup big items.
The cover hasn't arrived yet. The cover has weatherstrip all round and drainage tube for the canister. Accoring to Retrax, the cover should keep the bed dry. I will let you know if the cover leaks after I installed it and run thru the carwash.
Versacover is the best thing I have ever seen or used! It is incredibly strong, very lightweight, weather-tight, and fits great. I highly recommend it!
I have the Pace Edwards Jackrabbit cover and I like it. I leave my tools in the back and they stay dry.I only lost about 10"at the front of my bed. I like it because it's a segmented aluminum cover with the same material they use for truck tarps. I've found a few minor leaks primarily befor I put the gasket around the gate and where I have a dent in the front bed rail.
However my two favorite units are:
UnderCover (http://www.undercoverinfo.com) which you can get for $600 DELIVERED (Heck I could sell you that, bring it to Charlotte and help you put it on...lol)
Fold-A-Cover (http://www.fold-a-cover.com) which can be done for about $550 delivered) and is great if you need that versatility...
Let me know if I can answer any questions for you as I am quite familiar with these covers...and covers in general...
is the fold a cover watertight? thats my biggest problem, the only stuff that will be in my bed are a stroller, groceries, luggage when traveling, so it needs to stay dry. but i would need the majority of the bed space every now an then so thats why i was steering away from the 1 piece covers.
My Versacover (same thing as Undercover) weighs only 42 lbs, and really takes less than 5 minutes to remove. Also, it is watertight. The only place it would ever leak is the sides of the tailgate.
im going to get either a pace edwards jack rabbit, retrax cover, bak industries rollbak cover, and the roll n lock cover..........experiences with these covers, ive seen one with the jackrabbit????
