I have a new ford f150 2004 lariat that i have had to have seat cover on drivers side replaced twice because of wear on left side of seat. The second time i noticed foam underneath seat adn felt metal on upper left front of seat. when seat removed found frame to be bent down on left side causing metal to push up through foam. it appears that there is a weakness in design of frame due to weight on edge when exiting from vehicle. need fix for problem.
Hi,
I have a 2004 Lightning that appears to have the same problem. I have read a few other postings online that deal with this abnormal wear. Ford claims that there is no problem and that the wear is normal. Did you ever get this resolved?
Thanks in advance.
I've got the same problem on mine. I only have 14000 on my 04. Definitely felt the metal bar in there that has worn through. I posted a few weeks ago about the problem and only got a few responses. I will bw taking mine to the dealership in a couple of weeks to see how they will address it.
I do not have this problem yet on my 06 Scab but I can see where it will be in the future. In my case at 5' 8" my legs are short enough you tend to throw your right leg up in the seat and pull the left leg up afterword. This causes wear on the corner. I keep leather conditioner on it, and I'm hoping for the best. Could this be part of the problem Doncinnamon ?
My seat has the tear in the side after 25K miles. I called the dealership today and they said they just need to look at it and get the parts to fix it, no problem. I worry a little about how long it will stay fixed.

I took my truck to the dealership and they looked at the tear in my seat. They are leather. There is a metal piece that is L shaped that points toward the door. He said they would put rubber or something over it to keep it from rubbing on the leather. I rubbed my finger on it and the corners are quite sharp. I think I will use my small metal file to soften the edges before I take it to get repaired. I figure if I do that and they can cover it in rubber I should not have this problem again. I plan on keeping my truck for a long period of time and I want a permanent fix.
First of all, I am new to this forum. And I am impressed with the quantity & quality of the responses. That said, I believe that Ford knows they have a defect in these seats but they are hoping that warranties will expire before the owners can detect or act upon the problem. That's where I sit. I drive about 125 a day and only noticed the problem starting around 30K miles. By the time I researched the problem, I had passed 36K. Since this is not a safety issue, Ford can drag their feet or completely ignore this. I guess my next step is to start sending letters and email to consumer affairs and other such entities. The worst part of it is that I really enjoyed my relationship with my Ford dealer (Ted Britt Ford in Virginia). My first purchase was a Mustang GT and not the Lightning. Unfortunately, this may be my last.
Hopefully I will have better luck with my dealeship. I only have 14000 miles on my truck and take very good care of it. The insie still looks new except for the seat. It definitely is from when I get out. I can see where my leg rubs on the metal br and has worn out the seat. Doesn't seem to be from just sitting in the seat. Looked up the seat parts and if I had to pay for it myself there does not seem to be a cheap fix. Will post here after my trip to the dealership.
Trenchdog, ask the dealer for an aftermarket adjustment. They can get Ford to pay for 80 percent of the cost on a repair that should be covered, but is just out of warranty.
I have a 2005 F150 Lariat 4X4 with the 'leather seats' , if you can call them leather. It has 13K miles, and the upright portion of the driver's seat has been replaced 3 times due to the dye coming off the 'leather' of the beige color scheme . I also have the seat foam breaking down on the left side of the driver's seating surface from entering /leaving the truck. I had the same problem with my 2004 FX4 seat with this foam literally disintegrating after less than two yrs. of service on that truck. (In addition to the famous Staining of the cloth seats in the FX4). You would have thought that now , after three model years, they would have 'got it right' with at least the interior part of the truck. Whatever committee within Ford that was used to cast the interior material choices should have been long gone by now!! (We can only hope) There are many others now finding these issues out, and Ford says this is due to 'Normal Wear & Tear' - Nice Answer Ford !!
dont knock ford it is not their fault for the wear on the corners of the seat. yes the metal poking through the side of the seat is a a design flaw, however it apparently is not a problem on "every" truck. they will not have a recall on this maybe a tsb, but that will only cover within warranty... i recommend that everyone who has this problem put something on the metal themselves as we know how our stealerships work...as for the wear on the corners of the seats pick your butts up dont slide them that is not ford at all, it goes for any suv or truck with leather. as for the dye coming off, ive never heard of anything like that and if your on #3 then i would say check yourself, cuz this is vehicle 5 with tan interior and ive never had dye come off - all ford trucks and suvs. i feel for you guys that have the frame poking through, but the rest of ya need to pick up your butts or quit complaining. also the cloth i see stain very easily on alot of other manufacturers vehicles as well.
