OK, so ive done some research on the forum over the last few days and have realized the popping/missing is from a bad COP. Presumably. There is no light on the dash. When 6 had oil come up around it and shorted it out i pulled a code. Now i pull none. I took the truck to Ford and had the complete tune-up. Im guessing cops arent replaced at that time.
This new missfire doesnt show a code so im guessing cop.
Have a couple quickies.
Where are they?
Cant i just use a timing light to find the miss?
Are they interchangeable? It would seem i could buy one new and try it in 4 and 8 first then run down the heads until she quits missing.
Considering I was told a "tune up" would run me around $1000, if it doesn't run GREAT you can be sure I'd take it back to the dealer. I have a '02 S'crew w/5.4L, so I guess that is why they said it would cost so much. It is going to have to be running pretty bad, before I pay that much though. Good luck!
Could be a bad plug or wire even if they are new. If the dealer did the tune-up, I would take it back to them and have them scan it to get real time data that may show the miss.
Went back to the dealer. Plug wires were apparently not covered in the 60,000 mile tuneup that cost me dearly just a while back. Cost? Dont ask.
Yay!!!! Fixed. Runs better than when i bought her.
BUT......i got hit and run'd. Im a tad too close to the dramatic rearend remodeling i did to an old Chevy Celebrity , so i dare not file.
Im out some bed work, tailight, and a bumper. Tailight was $9.99 on ePay. Local connection got me a brand new bumper and all the bracing and brackets that were tanked for $361.
