Modified Cam?

Modified Cam?
Is there any easy way to tell if a 2000 ford ranger xlt 3.0 liter has a modified cam? I had a friend drive my truck from florida to nebraska and he was thinking that it might be modified becasue it was only at 3000 rpms at 75-80 mph. Any ideas? Thanks!

A modified camshaft would have nothing to do with the rpms on the highway. Even if it had one then it wouldnt change the engine speed, that change can only be performed in the driveline. The reason your truck was revving so low was the fact that your transmission has overdrive, when on the highway it allows the engine to spin slower in order to increase fuel economy.
