while driving going up the gears the ride is for the most part pretty smooth. while in overdrive and going to pass another car it drops into passing gear and i get a like.... oumph. how do I fix this problem. I allready drained and replaces the fluid. any help will be appericated

First, you should tell us what kind of transmission you're asking about, or at least the exact vehicle it's in!
The general answer is: have it serviced, & adjust the bands. A Haynes manual tells how.

If it slams into second or third gear while accelerating, it's a broken accumultor spring. If not, just drive it. It shouldn't damage the tranny. If it gets worse, I'd go to a trans shop for a second oppion.
