Question which code reader should I buy?

I have seen a code reader with a CD at sears for $150.00. Sorry did not get the make but it was orange. Are the CDs worth the extra cost?

One that reads real live data is better. A programmer is even better, more performance, but about twice the price.

What is meant by real live data? If I get the programmable type what will I be able to do with it?

Thanks for the response

Live data just means that you can plug in the reader with the engine running and it will show you how the engine is running. A programer allows you to change shift points, recalculate speedo for lager tires, change fuel curves to run 93 octane, ect. An example would be Diablo or Hypertech. If you just want to read the codes, go to autozone or other parts shops and they will pull the code for free.
