Well I have an '85 F150 4x4 that has large amounts of rust and even rust through spots, the front end needs a total rebuild due to all the bushings being shot, even the radius arm brackets needs replacing.
Now just the other day one of the tail gate cables broke, now do I go and replace this cable or just say screw it?
TIA for your opinions
Drake
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Nov-02 AT 05:05 PM (EST)]i say fix it, your local parts store should have one for less than $30 (prolly even less than that) and its a quick job. don't put anything heavy (like yourself) on your open tailgate til you get both hooked up, i speak from experience
i'd say fix it. i agree that A LOT can be done with 40 grand. i'm finding out the expensive way that a lot of technicians...oops...i mean mechanics just want your money (i know there are some really good mechanics out there, just not here). i am also learning that doing the repairs yourself can be a good experience and yes, you know it's done right.
I dunno, I vote sell the tailgate and buy some straps. I never thought I could back up as close to things as I can without a tailgate to obstruct my view! With a 155" wb no less!
Screw it for now! I've made the mistake of nickle and Diming my '86 f250 to death. Now I don't have $$$ for the big jobs. Get the expenpensive, time consuming stuff done first, then mess with the Piddly crap.
