Hanger vs. Spring Lift?
I'm sure there a ton of opinions on this. However, I'm interested to know everyone's thoughts. I'm considering the edge 4.5" hanger kit, but it seems to me that a 4" true spring lift is better. I've been told that I could experience problems with hanger kits due to the altered geometry on the front end, not to mention the hefty price tag of the edge system. If I go with a Rancho, Superlift, or ProComp lift, it's a lot less money and I get whole new springs. Thoughts, Opinions, advise?
I have the 4.5" DR hanger and shackle along with the 4" Deaver springs for a total of 8.5" lift without any problem. Springs are soft and flex very well.
The downside of the stock springs is that they many sag some over time...more so if you off road hard. Which is why they also offer the 4" lift system with the 4" Deaver springs up front.
Out of the three other companies you mentioned I stay away from Rancho ( I had their 4" and am glad to have it off the truck), personally I'd stay away from the Pro Comp as well (a buddy of mine ran the 4" Pro Comp and was glad to have it off his truck), I've heard good reviews from people with the Superlift lifts since superlift came out with their select series springs, main thing I dislike about Superlift is that the springs are made in India.
Just my $.02

May I ask why you and your buddy were glad to have these lifts off your trucks? I want to add that I'm not a serious 4-wheeler. I'm mainly in it for the look and an occasional mild off-road session. Thanks.
He sold his old lift to a buddy of his cheap, and I traded most of my lift to a buddy of mine real cheap.
Also, no matter which lift you go with I'd recommend shocks that are valved specifically for the SD.
If you like how your truck currently rides with the stock springs do a hanger kit. If you want either stiffer or softer ride then chose the spring lift from a manufacturer that provides such springs. I agree with getting shocks valved for your truck.
Either leveling method has pretty much the same amount of work, cost is many times similar depending on manufacturer and options, and the issues are similar - ie: you will probably want a longer shock, you want the trackbar bracket or adjustable trackbar, etc.
I have snowplow spring with a 3" hanger kit on mine and it functions great for me, although stiff on the road it works great for dunes at higher speeds without bottoming out.
