Good towing tire?

I have a '99 F250 SD 7.3 PS and it is time to get new tires and I would like some recommendations. I drive mainly highway and paved country roads and because I live in the Charlotte area, snow is not a problem. I do tow a 8900 lb travel trailer on a regular bases, so I need advice on a good towing rated tire.

I've got a set of Falken RV 235/85 16 Radial AP load range E. They have a slightly more aggresive tread then a straight highway tread with no noticable noise they don't have any problems in the rain and surprisingly I haven't had any real problems up here in Chicago with the snow. I live in Washington state and have to travel a lot with work so I need a good all purpose tire. I've also ran Firestone, Goodyear, and Michelin with real good luck. Buy a good quality tire and watch the prssures.

If you want to spend a bit more money the LTX M/S Michelin is a good all around allseason tire not so good for heavy offroading but perfect for highway travel. I was sceptical about Michelins with the price being so high and is it worth it and I have to say yes. They improved the steering control of my old 89 F-450 it too a little for them to break in but now they work great.

The BF Commercial Allseason T/A is a good all around highway allseason heavy duty tire I know a few people with these no major problems they wear good etc. I think they would be my second choice to the Michelins the tire shop didn't have the BFGs in stock so I got the Michelins.

If you are going to tow don't buy the cheapy tires they will peal off too quick especially if the pavment is hot and you have a heavy right foot getting that PSD power to the ground.

I have the LTX, and in my case they wear VERY quickly. I do believe they have a miles warrentee though. I highly recommend them otherwise, and they do VERY well in sand and snow. I use them as all-terrain tires (perhaps that's why they wear so fast....) and they do very well.

I am using the factory Firestone Steeltex that came with the truck. I get good wear out of them and a good ride. I did put a set of Goodyear on the back of my work truck and I am not happy with them. This summer I will have to put back tires on my DRW and it will be Firestone.

I am gonna have to second RVpuller's comment. I too am running the factory Firestone's with no problems. I pull a 35 ft 5er, so yeah they get tested for towing!

The Firestone Steeltex that came on my 96 F250 were absolute JUNK!!. In the rain the truck would fishtail if I gave it too much gas while going straight!!!!, Imagine on a turn. After around 30,000 miles they started to loose chunks of rubber off the the treads. I kept them properlty in flated and rotated them regularly. I have BFG AT now. the trucks drives better but they are noisy. I tow with them. They seem OK. The Michelins described above are probably better for towing.
