Hello all I just got a 86 Ford F250 4x4 6.9l Diesel and 4 speed manual 1 owner 92k on motor I was told.
it has a blown head gasket and is partially torn down one head off and all the other plumbing dismantled. Well I am new to the Diesel engine and I was wanting to know it there is any place that I could go and look at pictures
of an assembled motor or if anyone lives near the Orlando mt dora area that I can look and take pictures of the assembled motor I do plan to go down and pick up the Haynes manual on diesel repair but I know I will need more.
Any Suggestions??
Thanks David
Head gaskets are commom occurance on the old 6.9. The odometer reads up to 99999 then flicks over to 00000 again so unless there are good maintenance docs to verify the mileage, could be or could be not.....
HamRadioDude - Welcome to FTE. PLC7.3 knows his stuff, as do others here, and gives good advice. I am new to diesels too. Everyone seems eager to help. Good luck with your project. Let us know how it is going.
PLC7.3 - Is there a similar site to cover a 90 7.3? Thanks.
PLC7.3 Thanks for the link I will get good use out of them. the person I am buying the truck from is a neighbor and has had the truck since I have known him so I believe him. I did however make my first mistake I went and bought the Haynes diesel repair manual to find out that it is taylored more to the power stroke with very little in it for Pre Power stroke.
Thanks Again
David
HamRadioDude , welcome to FTE ! The 6.9 is one tough motor , I had one in an '86 SC 4X4 F250 Dually ( built by Centurian Customs , Ford didn't build an SC Dually 4X4 in '86 ) that had over 380K on when I sold it ! It used a little oil but still ran good , the guy that bought it uses it every day to pull his lawncare equipment . Where abouts in Eustis are you ?
Blackf3504dr I live east out of of 44 towards Casia/Pine lakes.
Yea well I know I got my work cut out for me but I figure if I get all back together and running the hard part will be over with just getting use to a diesel and all the care one needs. tomorrow I got to take and tow her down to the back shed so I can get the other head off then I figure while I got them off I might as well clean them up and check the valves etc.. plus the side that blew I am going to take to the machine shop and have it checked. I did not see any cracks BUT you never know what might be hiding. Also I checked the ebay listing for the head. I will see My local machine shop said he could get right to it and let me know by thursday.
