c6me

My 390 has a C6ME cast on it, but I was looking at christ's book and it also says 360 thru 428. I was just wondering if I could bore it out and make it a 428? I would love it if I could.

The only way to know for sure is to sonic check the block. You might be able get an idea by checking the space between the cylinders thru the core plugs. FFR428 has the drill bit sizes or check the search, it was only a week or so ago this came up.

I was just wondering if all the c6me blocks were the same, but they just bored some of them bigger depending on what orders they had to fill.

The drill bit test is an easy way to field test a block for thickness. Sonic checking is by far the most accurate but this is a quick way to tell you about how thick it really is. All bit measurements are in 64" increments as a universal standard and can be converted as needed for your measuring purposes. Use the shank of the bits to measure between the cyl walls inside the freeze plugs to detemine which cyl cores were used to cast your block....
330FT,332,352,360,390,410 will fit a 17/64" bit between the cyl walls.
361,391,428,406 a 13/64" drill bit.
Some 406 and most 427's a 8/64" drill bit.
Some 427's a 5/64" drill bit.
There is also an allen wrench test that apply's the same basic principle's of measurements but don't have the info on that and feel the drill bits are a little more accurate anyway. This could be difficult if the engine is a runner and in the truck or car. If the engine or block is out of the vehicle it's an easy thing to check. G.

Hey doesn't the 330FT have a smaller 3.875" bore?

Yes the 330FT has a smaller bore but the same cyl wall cores used as the 360/390. This test was originated by Dave Schouweiler or "Shoe" as he is know over on the FE Forum at network 54. The blocks tested and documented by Dave are just a guide to compare different cyl wall core used in various FE/FT castings. And as always some results may vary depending on casting. I have a 406 block with 427 thickness wall on one side and std 406/428 on the other. Pretty strange. G.
