Noisy 5.4
I have a 99 Superduty with a 5.4 and 3.73 gears. I also have a flowmaster muffler. When I come off the line the engine sounds like I am pulling a fairly steep hill. It almost sounds like an exaust leak but I can't find one. Is the engine just working too hard with the 3.73's or is this a noisy engine?

It's hard to say with your discription? The Flowmasters will creat a throaty sound under acceleration and then level off at cruise, but should be noticably different from an exhaust leak. If you cannot find an exhaust leak, then it is probably engine noise. I think I know what your talking about, I have a 5.4 in my 2000 crew and under hard acceleration, such as your describing, it sometimes sounds as if it could blow up. 3000 RPM sounds like 7000 RPM. It has adequate power for the truck, but is underpowered for hard acceleration or towing. Hope this helps.
