Has anyone had their GVWR (legally) increased from the 8800 on a F250 to 9900 like the F350?
IBF250 has said this is possible through a certified mod shop or an authorized dealer by adding the 4in block from the F350 and getting the new doorjam tag. The suspension shop and dealer both said no and referred me to the DOT and DMV for that issue. Both offices are a real joy to get through to and actually speak w/ someone that understands (at least in AZ).
I would like to license it at axle weight ratings if possible or increase the GVWR.
Right now w/ the weight of the rig, 4 passengers, fuel/toolbox and luggage I am maxed to the point that I can have no tongue weight on the truck or I am overweight. I understand that if I am not hauling commercially and I probably won't get stopped...but with my luck I will, and don't want to break to many laws. A lifted truck will attract some unwanted attention.
Anyone have any thoughts, experiences, knowledge on the subject? Is it impossible?
I was under the impression that the blocks were not the only difference in the F250 and F350. I was told that there is a different temper in the F350 springs. I could have been lied to though. It was a salesman. Anyone else?

AAAAAUGH I HATE that! Thanks, that is what I originally thought. Shoulda stood my ground with his boss present for some salesman humiliation. They shouldn't be able to get away with that BS.
I priced those blocks for the 350. They were only 35 dollars each. So the salesman has to say something else is different. The price difference between a 250 and 350 that are equipped the same is more than 70 dollars.
Call the people who you renew your tabs/tags through, ive heard from them before you could Opt to pay more, register your truck as commercial and pay for the capacity, then it is on your registration........but that is just what i heard.....
The only person I know that did this was MrRottnDog, but he hasn't been around in a long time.
He lives in Chicago Ill and did this for his Quite large X....you can take a look at his gallery.
You can't increase the manufacturer's ratings. It takes a certified vehicle manufacturer/modifier to do that. That is why the 350 is more than the 250, it has a GVW 1100# higher.
customz...havent been able to contact the dealer or 4 wheel mod shop here again, but ill make a post once i talk to them. but yeah, the f250 is identical to the f350 except for the 2 inch to 4 inch block. springs, axles, tires, etc is all identical. youre just paying more for the ability to legally haul and tow more weight. with the increased gvwr/payload, it also increases the amount that you can tow with a 5er.
i would say that 90% of the salesmen out there dont know that the 250 and 350 is the same truck structurally. one guy on here made a post a while back about how he was impressed with how his 250 with a 6.0 would pull right with a 350 with a 6.0 going uphill. said he was really proud of his 250 for being able to do that. didnt have the heart to tell him that its the same truck lol.

I have done just what jetjock16 says above with no problem. In my state you have to have your truck registered for the weight of truck and load (ex.trailer) in order to be legal. In other words if you are willing to pay the added cost you can register your truck up to 25,999lbs.

in virtually all states there is no legal limit of 26k on the truck. if you exceed 26k you have to get a different class license. where you are limited is by your gvwr. you can legally tow any amount of weight you want to as long as you dont exceed your gvwr.
now, some states do require you to register your trucks gcwr because they give you different tags for different weights, and the tags, insurance, etc are different rates. most states dont, but some do. but lets say you live in one of these states, and you register your truck for a 25,999lb gcwr. you pay the higher price per year for tags, pay higher insurance, but for what? if your trucks gvwr is still only 8800lbs then youre only going to be able to tow about 10k with a gooseneck. and you cant even get close to the 25,999 gcwr. what we're trying to figure out is how to to raise the gvwr legally.
