distributor HELP!!!!

Exclamation distributor HELP!!!!

needing a diagram or pics of the distributor in a 1984 f-150 ...or info on installing ,, need to know which post on the cap is #1.. and also the postion of the dizzy it's self ...

help out a tx boy

Just bring #1 up to tdc on compression - install the dist, note where the rotor is pointed and make that #1. put the plug wires on in order. Not to hard really.


usually - the rotor is pointed away fron the engine block for #1, but so long as th rotor is timesd to the correct cyl - it really won't matter much.

tried that and it will not adjust out .. thinking i am a tooth or so out on the dizzy ..


still would like to see a pic or diagram of the right set up ...

sounds like your cam timing is off.
Assuming your firing order is correct.

You should be able to rotate the dizzy to bring it into time. Loosen the hold down nut and rotate the dizzy to compensate for the one tooth off.

only reason i am thinking timing is the exhaust gets glowing red hot .. has no restriction in exhaust and no cats ...

another problem i am haveing is the co output is to high and will not pass emissions testing .. any help is gladly accepted ...

Your timing is too late that accounts for the overheated exhaust. If you can't get
the timing right move the distributor one tooth and try again. If the distributor doesn't
go in all the way just turn the engine over and it will rotate enough to index with the
oil pump and drop in.

kotzy thats my plan for tomorow ..thinking that is also the reason the truck shuts down hard and runs on a bit ..
