which coil to use?

hi guys i am getting rdy to get a new distributor and such for my old beast of a truck i figure ill invest in a hi performance coil maybe help with my milage a little..... anywayz its a 88 engine in the truck (4.9). Basically im rly stupid and went to msd website and cant figure out which it seems ill need i was thinking a blaster 2 coil? So basicaly i wanna know which to use and bout how much it will cost around... t/y guys every1 has been very helpful so far.

You will need the Blaster TFI coil, part number 8227

Also, might want to look into gettin the harness for direct hookup into your exisiting TFI setup, part number 8874
Prices on Summit Racing:
Coil: $44.88
Harness: $13.95

The hotter coil won't do anything if you aren't changing the plug gap, etc...If your distributor is high end, aftermarket, etc, it might be worth it. You would then want to adjust the gap most likely. If the distributor is stock type, I'd just use a stock type coil. If you are going to use the stock plug gap setting, there is no advantage to the high $$$ coils. You only need the hotter coil, if you are going to use a wider gap. If you use the stock gap setting , and the hot coil, the performance will be the same as stock. Any more voltage *over* what is required to jump the gap is wasted. Or to put it another way, you only need as much coil, as to jump whatever gap you have. So if you use a stock plug gap, anything over a stock coil is a waste of money. Or thats the way I see it anyway...Others may differ....MK

nm5k is right the extra fire power is wasted without change in gap of plugs
