Shucks, folks, I forgot to put my own short list up!
I truly feel that I've found my calling here in the Great State of Arizona. The fine town of Wickenburg is a true gem, particularly during Gold Rush Days or at the Bluegrass Festival. At "the ranch", I've got a great view of the Bradshaw Mountains to the North, the Weavers to the South, and I can look at the town below and to my West. We've pretty much always got a breeze going through, so we don't bake.
Other places I'd consider and/or would love to see in greater detail:
New Mexico
Texas
Utah
Colorado
Wyoming (but apparently not the Winter!)
Montana (ditto!)
I'd love a place up north, just to check out and shoot the bull at once and a while. I'm still working on building up the empire here in AZ for now though.
This is GREAT...no one (from a cursory inspection) mentioned California! Perhaps this trend will catch on, and people will stop coming here in droves every year...although CA is basically trashed anyway, so maybe it's too late for hope...

you can keep the People's Republic of California! Earthquakes, Wildfires, mudslides, snowstorms, former Gov. Gray Doofus, Berkley, need I say more?

Nah, it's too late. Been here all my life, 3 generations before me. My great-great grandfather is buried less than a mile from where I now live, but I can't wait to get out. The California dream is dead, suffocated by the masses. Hmm, Alasksa. The thought has crossed my mind, went to visit my sister in Fairbanks when I was 15. Still room to breathe up there, maybe down around the Kenai peninsula... -TD
We are currently planning on moving the entire family to Hawaii "Big Island"
"O'hana " style ..
Buying a huge lot, several homes on it.. So Grandpa, sis and family, Mom and us can all live in the same place..
Part of the family is already there starting the process..
Same plan here after I retire. Love the mountains, but dont think I can take the snow when I am 80. Another plus, Hawaii does not border Mexico.
4 generations of my roots are all within 50 miles of where I live.
But to get away from 30 below in the winter, I could move to the
1)Bahamas or
2)the Cayman Islands
because they are warm and have no taxes.
of course,
3)Sidney , Australia has Bondi beach
....and you just leave our bundled-up Canuck girls at home, you crazy pistol-packin' Montana dudes.
