I ran across this tonight while browsing eBay. Is this a really good price for a well-running 292 and 4-spd? If you "Buy it Now" they paint it for free. Also, the shipping is free within the US and there is only a $20 handling fee. Sounds like a great deal to me, but I thought I'd check with the experts.
Is this price worth bugging my dad to set up a Paypal account?

I guess it depends on how bad you want the 292/4-speed. Seems like to much $ to me for something that may need to be rebuilt. I like the engine that's already in your truck! Just my opinion.
I picked up a 292/Fordomatic for the price of getting it off the property ($20). The previous owner said it ran the last time he used it - but it had been sitting for a loooooong time and would never have run in the condition I got it. I was looking for some parts like a crankshaft, not the whole engine (or transmission). In my case, the crank was cracked and I couldn't use anything. I guess if I were you I'd want to see the engine run (not likely) before I spent the $600 on it - unless you are looking for parts and not a working engine. It's a tough call - good luck.
Thanks for the insight, guys. The ad says the engine runs well. However, it is in Washington, so unfortunately I have no way of verifying that. Plus now, it's ending real soon. I suppose I'll most likely have to let this one go.
