Whats the difference between a 351c and a 351w? I know they were built in different places but besides that what is different? Is one better, more horsepower or something? Thanks for your help in advance!!
Joe
They're totally different engines, except they happen to have the same nominal displacement. The C is older & was discontinued sometime around 1980; the W was discontinued in '98.
Ok, here it is again- Dennis is probably going to kill me for this, but:
The 351c and 351w are close to the same age. They are very similar, and will swap out with no effort. The 351c was not used in trucks aside from the Ranchero, and was dicontinued in 74. The 400 was the same class engine, but shared only the cam and heads, and was produced from 71-82. The 351m was a de-stroked 400, built for emmissions, from 74-82. The 351m/400 block uses 429/460 bellhousings, but otherwise are pretty much on their own.
