I found a 1980 f250. It has a 351, headers, dual exast and has been slightly modified. It has a 6" rancho susp lift that looks to be a few years old.It has 35" bf goodrich with about half tread left. The body and paint is in great shape except for the drivers door, on the bottom there seems to be a little rot. the interior is not bad. it runs great. it also has a one of thoose 1/2 caps and a toneau cover with the pnumatic springs that u can lift to access the bed. The guy is asking 3,000 dollars, he says he just wants to get rid of it. My question is is this a good deal? I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks in advance for your reply
Joe
it seems to be a good deal. Do you have any photos of that truck?
Have a look to the front brackets which are riveted to the frame. These bracktets are for the radiator support and often eaten by rust. If they are rusted away it possible to mount new or used ones but in this case you have to drill out the rivets.
Hey Jens,
Thanks for the reply, I am going to look at it again tommorow, i will take a couple of pics so u can see it. But u don't think its over priced?? I just dont want to get ripped off, it's gonna be my transportation to work!!
hm...I don't know yery much 'bout the present prices for that kind of cars / trucks since I am from Europe.
The question is how urgent it for the seller is to sell the truck and how many people are interested in to buy it. You can make him a better offer. You should, if you have time, compare the prices with some ad's in you local newspaper or via internet were similar truck are offered.
From what I've seen, a 1980 F250 would have to be in nearly pristine unrestored condition (good original paint, minimal dings and scratches, no rust at all, good interior with few or no cracked/torn pieces) to be a "good deal" at $3K.
It still could be worth that much with more imperfections, depending on the market in your locale. If you want to see what older trucks are really worth, watch eBay for a while.
BTW: Do not factor the lift/tires into the price, unless you know the owner personally, or better yet, helped him put the lift on the truck. You'd be surprised at how many people screw things up when they "modify" a vehicle.
If the guy just wants to get rid of it, offer him $1500 and see what he says.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Nov-02 AT 06:30 PM (EST)]Just my two cents, but I's also find out, since its got such a big lift, if he did a lot of off roading, towing, etc. You don't want to buy something with twisted I beams and worn out leaf springs. (like I did) For the most part, however, I'd say it sounds like a decent deal. See if he'll cut off about 7-800 for the tires, what little damage there is, and all that good stuff.
