My 82 F-150 has the standard vinyl bench seat. i've got a pair of seats out of a 89 Lincoln town car that i want to install, will i be able to install these? i'm not intending to use all the power functions, i just want some seats that are a bit more comfortable than the stock bench, and that have head rests.
I think you'd be able to fab something up. Summit has sliding mounting brackets that you can bolt to the floor. That would be pretty slick. If you change them let me know how it goes. I want to mount leather heated seats out of a new Lariat F-150 in my '84. Nothin beats having a warm butt on 5 degree days!!
Heh i hear you, but down here in the deep south we rarely get to 20 degrees, so some cloth seats will work fine instead of that cold vinyl bench. i'm glad to know it will work, thats next weekends project.
Yea i got em mounted tonight, it was a SOB though, but after some drilling and beatin and banging, i now have a set of 89 lincoln town car seats that have all the power functions.
Only problem is being 6'4 it is a tight squeeze without a tilting steering column, since the truck floorpan is raised higher than the car, the seats sit closer to the steering wheel...
Its easy actually, all you need to do is go to a boneyard or find a lincoln parts car and take the front two seats out, pull your bench seat out and set it aside, then look under your cab to make sure no wires or fuel lines run underneath it.
After that, set the seats in so that they are straight and in a comfortable position to you, with the seat fully retracted (against the back of the cab, if you are tall like me) and then drill the holes in the floor and bolt them down. (note you may have to put nuts on the back of the bolts, to securely hold them.)
I've yet to get around to installing the rocker switches to control the power functions of the seat, but they are common grounded to the switch (if you use the same seats i did, the yellows are ground and reds are hot.) its a pretty easy swap and most everything bolts right up after the holes are drilled. Also it gives you a better view of the road ahead.
