The 89 I just brought home has been rolled, and needs a cab. Anyone versed well enough in KS title rules to know how to handle a cab replacement, as far as the title goes (VIN's won't match)?
Oh yeah, I've only dealt with G&R here in Wichita for junk yards. Any body else I should be checking with for parts?
try calling Fast Back Title service (522-4900) they can probly answer all your questions. As far a truck salvage yard you can try North west truck salvage.
Another place to ask that question would be the County Treasurer in the vehicle reg. division. You might get slightly diffenent answers in different counties.
Talk to the ones in control of that show !!! Kansas Highway Patrol will deffinately be able to tell you the answer. I am going to guess and say you better have a title to the donor truck with the cab. Otherwise you will have to apply for a builders title.
Finally asked the question to the right guy. The Scout Master of our Boy Socut Troop is a body man at Mel Hambelton's.
When a guy is ready to do a cab swap (and has both cabs on hand), he needs to get a form to fill out for the KHP. They will send an inspector over to look at both cabs and actually move the VIN tag from the old to the new cab. Then a paper is issued that tells that the cab was changed, so there is not any question as to why numbers between the frame and cab no longer match.
If I remember right, the forms have to be picked up at the HP inspection office in downtown Wichita (at least for Sedgwick County residents).
When i had my 1957 F-250 titled in Kansas, the inspector didn't go by the one on the cab but the one on the frame, so if there's a VIN on your frame, they go by that verses the one on the cab, at least thats what he said when he inspected mine.
The inspection depends on the inspector you get and their mood. I've had one search around under the hood for numbers, and others just look at the windshield.
When I brought the Liner down this year and got it inspected, I threw the spare down on the ground because the Trooper wasn't tall enough to see the tag. She made some comment about good old farm trucks. That after the comment about how well used the truck is (the left side of the cab is pushed in).
Good thing she inspected it right then, because thte lady at thte counter inside didn't believe that I only gave a dollar for it like the Bill of Sale said (she was right, i didn't give anything for it). She was going to charge me sales tax on the blue book value, until she talked to the inspector. The inspector must have assured her that it wasn't worth book value.....
