My understanding is you can disable them yourself, but a mechanic cannot legally do it for you. But what are the implications if you sell the vehicle? Wonder if it would be worth it to set them off from outside the vehicle--that would disable them for sure and for good!
INLINE SIX POWER!
300 Cubic Inches of Low RPM Truck Torque! And twin-I-beams too!
Just truning the switch under the dash doenst disable them totaly. Thereb is u fuse also. If you set them off you will be buying new glass somewhere in the vehicle. It won't be worth as much either.
You should also be sure you know how to disable them safely. If you pull the wrong wire or sensor, you can actually set off the airbag, which means an instant several hundred to over $1,000 repair job, plus explaining to the wife, sig other etc what the heck was that noise? Don't want a popped steering wheel, dash board or broken windshield ya know.
I don't know how to do the job safely, but if I planned to do it, I would certainly check out some manuals and ask questions.
As far as legality, like the other guy said, but I think some dealers can do it but don't like to due to liabilities.
Thanks for the advice. The reason i need to disable it is that my wife is not very tall and sits too close to the steering wheel. If the air bag does go of it may do more harm than good. Thanks again.
