Removing the tailgate is fairly simple, but it is a lil heavy. You first need to remove the support straps from eiter side. Then lift the gate to about half way(about 45 degrees) then pull away from the truck till the passenger side slides out. Once this hppens just move towards the passenger side with the whole gate and the other side should slide right out.
While you have the gate off, you should put some eavy grease in the the pivot cups. Remove the plastic cup and put the grease in the steel cup on the gate. Wouldn't hurt to put it in the cup too. My cups rusted to the point were it was difficult to let the gate down. She definately is heavy!
U bring up a good point Lardman- I think i will do that as soon as it dries up here in New York. Cant take any chances, also help defend against that nasty thing they call RUST.
I got it. Thanks a heap. Thought I might find some info in the owners manual but no dice. Thanks too, for the lube advice, I'll grease it up just before it goes back on. Cheers Steve
Want to remove the tailgate from my 97 F150 and having never done it before need some pointers. Cheers Steve
