What is it ??
Everytime I turn the key on the WTS light comes on, the seat belt dings, all the warning lights come on and...there is something that runs for approx 45 seconds from under the hood. I opened the hood, this "thing" is on the pass. side front fender weld top, it is "T" shaped, an electrical connection and it looks like a by pass hose 1/4 in from one side to the other, with it looks like an electrical connector going over to an oblong shaped cannister. What is this "thing" and is it soppose to run ever time I turn the key on ??

Is there any possible way you could take a picture of it.
Does your oil pressure gauge show pressure when you hear this thing running??? kinda sounds like it could be a preluber, but the canister thing sounds odd. just my guess, not a SD expert.

This "thing" is right below the Glow Plug Relay..
I've got a camera and can take a pic, but getting the pic here is my problem, I'm old and computer illiliterate and I can't spell. laffin.

I'm guessing it's your vacuum pump. Diesels don't develop manifold vacuum like a gasser (no throttle butterfly) so they have to supply it externally with a little pump, for things like the HVAC ducts and the ESOF hubs.
And that's not your glow plug relay on the fender; the GPR is up on the engine.

Yes I know, I was mistaken about the Glow Plug Relay, but the relay or something is just right above the little "thingy" I am asking about.
I'm going over to see David Lott next week and maybe he can tell me what's what.
But the other relay looks kinda like the glow plug relay..

RobertJohn....join the club of the leakey vacum system!!! That wonderful "thingy" you are talking about that runs for 45 seconds after you turn the key on is your vacum pump refilling the canister. Mine does the same thing and because of it I'm having problems keeping my front auto lock hubs locked in!

I went to E Bay and they have a couple but they don't look like mine ..
Mine is all black and there isn't a "cannister" looking thing on it like is on the ones on E Bay. So are they the same ? Or what ?
