I have a 6.0 in my 03 CC 4X4. Sometimes when I get on it pretty hard, like when passing traffic, I smell coolant. I don't think that it is boiling over because the fluid level is fine. I am guessing that when I give it a sudden burst of throttle that it heats up and the coolant pours into the overflow bottle and some of the vapor is getting out causing the smell. Am I correct or is there something far worse going on? Any ideas?
I am having the same problem. It's only when I really get on it. I can't find any evidence of fluid comming out of the overflow either. Hopefully someone will chime in here. I know it has been discussed in the past.
Tuners have been known to show the problem as well as towing a heavy load uphill without a tuner. I would put the original program back in and take it in to the shop.
I have also noticed occasional smell of coolant. I am presently having a problem with loss of coolant at tempretures below-20C. Had a machanic tell me about a very short hose located near the back of the engine (6.0).
I was shown the part and it slides over two pipes and is only sealed by presssure on the O-Ring. When the engine is cold soaked it leaks until warmed up. I assume if it leaks under cold soaking conditions it may also leak under presure loads. I still have the truck on warranty and will be getting the hose replaced next week.
When the engine is warm and plugged in I don't have a problem. The system also pressure tests OK.
