Power steering bracketry (70's vs 80's)

I intend on installing a power steering setup on my somewhat austere 300 I-6 in a '74 F100.

Is the PS bracketry the same on the '78-'79 trucks as it is on the '80's-'90's trucks?

the brackets are the same for mid-70s to late 80s.

The early brackets are for the old style ford steering pump.
The mid-70s to late 80s brakes are for the ford pastic resovior pump (this is probably the most common bracket).
In 87 they went to a pump with a serpentine pulley, I THINK the brackets are the same as the pastic pump but I'm not sure.

From what I understand, the plastic pump is preferable to the older model because is it less likely to overheat. Maybe I should just go with that bracketry...

I wonder how hard it would be to convert my beast over to a serrpentine belt setup and get rid of the V-belts? Might clean up the engine compartment a bit more...

the plastic pump sucks, it is low pressure and whines alot. go to the saginaw pump from the vans and they work lot better and are alot more durable.

I went to the junkyard today and looked at multiple PS pump setups on different I-6 applications.

They really appeared different from each other, ESPECIALLY those on the vans which seem to ride higher in the compartment than those of the trucks. I wonder if it really matters which one to use....?

i had a van one but it didn't line up with the pulleys, i cut the bracket and added about an 1.5" on to it and it works perfecct. THe pumps mount at the same height, no diff, maybe jsut the illisuion of the van hood being closer?

The Saginaw pumps have the metal dipstick, right?

ummm, i am unsure about a dipstick....the whole body is metal, like a canned ham is what a lot of people say. make sure to grab the high pressure hose off the van one if you get it because the pump has a different size hose then the norml ford, but the gearbox is the same.
