My 93 Ranger 4wd (electric shift) won't go into 4wd. It worked fine until the weather got cold. Fuses are fine. Clutch was replaced last year and 4wd has worked fine since. I frequently check the operation on slick road surface to be sure its operable. This morning I pushed the button and it engaged for about 60 seconds and then the light faded and the 4wd went out and won't re-engage. This is the first real cold snowy weather of the season. any body got an idea what is wrong with it? Thanks, rodmaker2

One of the more common reasons for 4x not working is a dirty/gummed up shift motor. Often they can be removed and cleaned. This is a good first course of action as they are about $300 at the dealer; aftermarket and used ones and begin in the low $100 range. If you do a search in this forum, you will find others that have had to deal with it. As a matter of the fact, I'm going to a buddies to look at a 94 Explorer with a failed shift motor tonight.
