Sad the Excursion is gone, I too hope they replace it with something.
I thought that they still made the Excursion. It just got the same redesign as the Super Duties. They are supposed to keep making them until the extended length Expy comes out in 2008 or 2009.
I really believe if Ford gets something to compete with the suburban maybe a lengthened expedition especially if it has a diesel. GMs dominance there might end. Since they have no diesel suburban. The excursion with the diesel has been a big seller for Ford. The gas models havent been. Mydealer whon is a big Ford dealer cant keep the 6.0s excursions in stock. They sell pretty easily. The excursion is just maybe to big for most people. It sure beats the interior room off a suburban though. Like I said if Ford makes something to compete they will sell like hotcakes.
The Excursion diesel does sell- but that's the only model that seems to, and it's still very small numbers compared to GM's volume. Ford's mistake was fielding a HD truck to compete in an affluent, style conscious luxury SUV market. The 'Burb/Tahoe (and other variants) were designed specifically to appeal to that market group, and the design involved a number of compromises. Low ride height= less ground clearance. How much do you need to crest a speedbump at Safeways? Engine power curves that favored low speed response instead of highway speed pulling power. Yeah, they tow- but infrequently. 4WD designed to be user-friendly ("transparent") for on-road use. Off-road capability was barely a consideration.
As far as the Expedition goes, I think the issues are more subtle. I hear "sluggish" and "stiff ride" sometimes, but I really think the problem is that it looks too much like an Explorer. Nothing wrong with an Explorer, but for the price difference, it needs to look like it costs $10K more, ya know?
