Thanks for your help in advance! I have a 1997 Ford f150 regular cab short bed with the 4.2L v6 in it. I've been having trouble with the check engine light coming on. I keep getting the same code(1451 EVAP system failure)with a snap on OBD II scanner. I replaced the gas cap and the light went out. But it again came on last month so I replaced a solenoid near the gastank. I forget exactly what it was called. The light went out and just last week it came back on again and I'm not sure what to try next. I am still getting the 1451 evap system failure code. Any Ideas?
Thanks for the reply My98fordF150!
I checked the voltage at the CV solenoid last night and it was only 8.75 volts. Is this good or bad? You reference a voltage of greater than 10.5 volts. Just to make sure I am measuring the voltage at the correct solenoid, where is it located? Is it mounted near the gas tank in the vacuum canister? Is this what you refer to as the canister vent? Because my reading is less than what you specified what should I check next? Thanks again for your help!
The cannister Vent solenoid is located near the fuel tank. It should be located right beside the Evaporative Emission Cannister. I'm not sure whether it is front, behind, or beside the fuel tank. It that what you checked?
The low voltage could indicate several problems including the PCM. Go ahead and measure the CV solenoid resistance. It should be between 48 and 65 ohms. If it's not within those values, you will need to replace the CV solenoid. While you're at it, go ahead and check all of your hoses and make sure none of them are collapsed, pinched, or broken etc.
