How well do these deals filter out dirt? It looks awfull open to me. I want good air flow and I know K&N's let to big of particles through. What is the micron rating of this filter? On a gas its not that big of a deal but turbos are not to tuff. Jamie

I don't know the micron rating, call Dale he might know.
All i'll say is from what I've seen it filter alot better than the stock set-up and thats for sure.

It looks simple enough. If I was only going to run it on the hiway I wouldnt worry about it. But being a welder I'll be in the dust alot. I am wondering which tuner is better for the 7.3 Bullydog or the new superchips. Do you know? I like the multi hp options but dont want to melt it down either. Jamie

The filter used with a Tymar is paper. You don't clean it, just throw it away and get another. It'll filter at least as good as a stock setup because that is paper too (unless you put an aftermarket in). In many cases it will filter better than stock because a stock box has a tendancy to allow bypass air (and contaminants) past the filter. And because the surface area of the Tymar is so large, I'm sure you can get way more than 30k miles out of a filter.

My setup was a year old in August. I can't tell you offhand how many miles I have on it. There are probably places you can order one from (as I recall, it was a Baldwin filter), but when I decide to replace it, I'll just call Dale again. There are some other things I want to talk to him about as well.

I was told the filter should last about a year even in very dusty conditions. I beleive I paid $19.99 for my last one.

Talking

Just got an e-mail from Dale Isley. Wow what a wealth of knowledge. I would like to just pick his brain for awhile. Anyhow he gave me the run down on this filter. It is a better filter than stock and flows better as well. He answered all my questions that I had. I'm going to get one, as soon as I figure out what chip top get. Jamie

The tymar is a PAPER filter. Just throw it away after about 20,000 miles or so. It filters better than ANY oil/cotton filter (such as K&N or AFE) but it does have a slightly higher restriction than the oil/cotton (hardly measureable tho).

It blows the stock filter away!! It also has a high "load" ability, meaning it can hold a LOT of dirt without affecting restriction to much.

Check out this link:

http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

Its a little old now, but the data should still be good. The "Baldwin" is the same as a Tymar in that study. It has good flow and low restriction, along with high filtration and high loading. Just an overall good filter.
