Would it be a waste of money to get a KN filter on a truck that has blowby problems. I get oil on the filter pretty frequently. Is it possible to clean the oil from a KN filter. Thanks in advance.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Dec-02 AT 07:58 PM (EST)]I wouldn't do it. They recommend strongly that NO oil other than their own stuff ever be applied to the filter, so I think that means nasty engine oil would be a No-No. It's a $40 gamble if you do, rather than a $6 paper filter. Clean out the PCV hose & fitting & replace the PCV valve before you risk it.
Besides: you're not gonna see any of the benefits of the K&N on a worn-out engine, anyway.
I agree. The oil in your filter is most likely due to a bad PCV valve. Change it and you may solve your problem.
Hotrod magazine (I think) did a test on the different air filters, and unless your running 5000+ RPM in a dragster, the K&N filter has no noticable difference from my $6 Fram. I think it was like 1 or 2 horsepower at normal RPMs. Many guys will tell you differently, but the dyno doesn't lie.
It does a good job filtering the air, but nothing for performance.
