Stuck in 4x4?

Question Stuck in 4x4?

So just drove the gf's new truck, a '98 ranger. Something seems funny about it though. When you come to a stop, there is a shudder, and when you get on the gas from a stop, there is also a slight shudder. Also, when I pull really hard turns with it, the front end jumps around like my Bronco does when I have the 4x4 locked in. So I'm wondering if it's stuck in 4x4? When I turn the switch (electronic 4x4's..) to and from 2WD and 4H I hear the transfer case engage and disenagage so, so it seems like its disengaging the fornt axle, but I'm still concerned. On this truck how would I check to see if the front axle is still engaged or not? I know how to check on my '88 bronco.. I don't have a clue about all this new crap...

Problems with the Pulse Vacuum Hublock (PVC) 4x4 engagement system used on the '98-'00 Ranger are most commonly a result of vacuum leaks in the PVH system. If you engage the 4x4 system and the front drive shaft spins but there is still no 4WD, then you know you have a hublock-related problem.

Thanks for the info. Turns out it's not stuck in 4x4, but it looks like its got that problem with the slip yoke needing to be re-lubed. So I've got that project coming up soon.. :-p
